Services to the Family & Caregiverds

Recognizing that decisions made by the caregivers trickle down and affect the daily lives of the children, CPNYC extends support services to the guardians. Caring for the Caregiver allows the mother, father, grandmother or foster parent to find a support base of individuals who understand the stigma and the feelings of shame they often encounter as guardians of a child of a prisoner. Caregivers are provided with comprehensive services to assist in making the emotional, mental and financial pressures less visible and felt by the children in their care. This initiative creates a safe haven where children and caregivers can be honest and open without fear of judgment or shame. This place of refuge is also a catalyst for caregivers to develop connections and friendships with others in a similar situation, acquire healthy coping strategies specific to their needs and to obtain these services within the neighborhoods they reside.
