Our Founder
Dear Friends of Children of Promise, NYC:
Thank you for visiting our new website. We hope that it will provide you with adequate information to learn more about Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC). I will use this space to keep you updated on the progress and accomplishments made toward our daily quest of supporting and serving children and families impacted by parental incarceration.
Many people have asked me about the origin of CPNYC. For several years, I served children throughout the city of New York and was always amazed at how casually I learned about the number of them impacted by incarceration. Without information and the resources required for offering coordinated programming, I often found myself feeling confined to a service model that did not meet the needs of many of the children under my care.
From constant focus, countless interviews with individuals impacted by incarceration and extensive research on best practices in youth development, CPNYC was born. I thank the initial host of family members, friends and colleagues’ support that extended beyond the financial gift, as it provided me and the Board of CPNYC with the incentive to continue our tireless efforts of managing the growth of this organization. It is because of this support that I truly believe that CPNYC will eventually grow to a multi-site organization providing quality services that address the needs, interests and concerns of the young people we serve,
To the many individuals who have supported my efforts, please accept my deepest gratitude. I never knew that so many friends would be revealed by a simple request for assistance. I will take that knowledge with me throughout this journey. Thanks to all for your interest in supporting our efforts. I look forward to seeing you at the Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting on November 18, 2008 and a continued partnership as we walk down the road of development and sustainability of CPNYC.
Keeping the Promise,
